TIP: First time viewing this visual itinerary we suggest a larger desktop screen, not your phone ;-)
(Although also designed to be your "itinerary in your pocket" on your trip ultimately.)
This itinerary is based on our inaugural expedition conducted in March 2026, which received rave reviews. This is the planned itinerary for our 2027 Founder-led trips, which will be finalized & updated for you at this same visual itinerary link based on this group's guest feedback & latest conditions as we approach the dates.
YOU'RE INVITED to join GLT Founders Captain Walter Córdova and his wife Amy Dickerson on this custom small group adventure we created to celebrate our meeting over 25 years ago when Amy was hosted on her first Galápagos visit by then tourist yacht Captain (& future husband) Walter.
Over the last 10+ years, we have been curating custom group trips on request, which became Galapagos Local Tours LLC. We are registered in the USA & exclusively work with Ecuador Min-Tur-registered, locally-owned tour operators that we personally know provide the best & safest service. See our latest Google reviews.
Together, we've designed this immersive land-based adventure to share our favorite Galápagos places, wildlife, and people with a group limited to ~10 travelers.
This will be the perfect size to reserve private boat charters & land tours. That's a ratio of ~1 native host for each 3 travelers--unheard of on most Galapagos tours that feature the maximum-allowed 16 passengers per Galapagos National Park (GNP) guide, with no guarantee that any of the guides/hosts are natives.
Our group's required Galapagos National Park-certified naturalist guide will be not only a Galápagos-born native but also one of the most sought-after expedition leaders on the islands with 18 years of experience—our own son, Marvi Cordova. Marvi works as Expedition Director (supervisor of all guides) on Celebrity’s 100-passenger Flora luxury liner when he's not leading our custom expeditions.
Our excursions were chosen by Captain Walter with his most trusted Galapagos native family-owned tour operators from his experience as a yacht captain on Santa Cruz Island, combined with Marvi's input on the latest weather & wildlife conditions. Amy is using her 500,000-visitor event center managing director background & 26 years living/traveling in Galapagos to ensure your trip experience is smooth & relaxing.
As you explore, you’ll be meeting & supporting local residents vital to protecting this fragile ecosystem for future generations.

HOW DOES THIS TRIP COMPARE TO HOW MOST VISITORS SEE GALAPAGOS?
All-Inclusive Tour—enjoy stress-free travel with a "cruise-style" experience we've innovated with the comfort & freedom of a land-based tour. Meals, in-Ecuador transport including Galapagos flights, excursions, gear, and before-travel packing list/tips/customer service all included--just arrive in Ecuador!
Smaller Group Size—enjoy a more intimate experience with approximately 3 travelers per native host tour leader, unlike the usual 16-passenger tours.
Native Operators—enjoy authentic experiences from native family-owned tour operators we know & trust, while knowing you are helping support the preservation of the Galapagos ecosystem for generations to come.
Customized Tour—we’ll tailor daily activities in the final itinerary to each group's interests before & even on-the-fly during the trip, while still offering ample free time to explore & relax on this active expedition-style trip.
Cultural Experience—travel with the Córdova family, original settlers, and connect with four generations of Galapagos natives who are our friends & family.
Great Value—affordable pricing for such a unique deep, all-inclusive exploration of Galapagos.
For comparison:
Quality Cruises cost $13,000-25,000+ per person for 2 weeks, excluding flights, on set itineraries in groups of 16 people/guide.
Self-Guided Land-based Tours would be at a similar price with same amount of tours with the added stress of self-planning and daily managing getting around this unique island national park with different guides/groups each day. Of course, not all-inclusive with meals, in-Ecuador flights/transport etc.
Budget Travel, while cheaper, often results in missed opportunities to see the unique nature and people of Galapagos, and not knowing if you've found the safest, best tours run by actual locals. Some visitors just treat Galapagos as any other islands--if you're reading this, that isn't your mode!
TIP: When you’re ready to book or want to see more exact list of what’s included, pricing and payment options just click on the Book Now button always available at the top right and/or shoot us any questions at the "?" button.

Want to join our interest list for this or future Founder Expeditions...or just have questions?
Just click on the "?" button above right and send us a quick note to be the first to hear updates.
This is the first of maximum two founder-led departures planned for 2027 with 2nd trip TBA in late fall.
Interested in your own departure dates for your group?
No problem, we can arrange a custom tour designed around your group's interests and dates & led by native guide(s) we recommend. Including the option to have our son Marvi Córdova act as your Expedition Leader/Guide throughout your trip.
We suggest let us know your potential dates ideally 9-12+ months in advance to have best availability of best boats/tour operators/guides.

Meet in hotel lobby for group private transport.
by Galápagos native Tony Sotomayor
He will assist our group with the usual (airline boarding passes & baggage check) plus extra steps at the UIO Quito airport required to enter the Galapagos National Park as a UNESCO World Heritage-protected site:
Get Galapagos Transit Control Card (TCT) ($20pp cost included with tour) as part of the Galápagos ecosystem protections.
There is also extra baggage Galapagos bio-security inspection & declaration before you can complete normal check in with the airline & go through airport security.
Be sure to keep the last 1/2 of the TCT in your passport to give as you depart Galapagos or you'll have to go through TCT process again.
Your e-ticket will be saved here for your reference after we purchase for the group
Your individual boarding passes will be handed to you at the airport by Tony. Please do NOT do your own online (often doesn't work anyway--don't stress!)
NOTE: your flight has a brief stop in GYE Guayaquil on the coast before continuing on to Galapagos--usually they don't let you off so you don't miss the continuation of your flight.
Your flight's on-time status will be at live link here with ability to choose text alerts for changes.
You'll go about 800 miles to the west as the "blue-footed booby" flies today.
WELCOME TO ECUADOR'S GALAPAGOS PROVINCE
You are now entering the Galápagos National Park.
Your entry fee of $200pp for non-Ecuador adults is included in the tour price.
**DID YOU KNOW? 97% of this world-unique island archipelago is protected within the Galapagos National Park (GNP).
Here are the GNP rules for visitors so you can help keep this ecosystem safe:
ARRIVAL TO GPS BALTRA ISLAND AIRPORT
You will climb down the plane stairs from the tarmac of this 1-runway airport.
**PHOTO OP: great quick group photo spot with the plane on tarmac before continuing to the airport for Galapagos National Park entrance check-in (stay in painted pedestrian area on tarmac).
Galapagos National Park Fee -- paid as part of tour but this is where you'll need your TCT card where they take first 1/2.
***Make sure to save the last 1/2 of your TCT paperwork in your passport & also take a picture of it as you'll need to exit Galapagos in 2 weeks or have to do this TCT all over.
Anticipate your carry-on bags being inspected, X-rayed as part of ecosystem protections.
Then proceed to baggage claim (where you often have to wait on a dog-sniffing inspection) and as you exit into the main airport concourse with your bags, we'll be waiting to greet you!
We'll be taking a short airport bus across Baltra Island ($5pp included), a short water taxi ($1pp included) to reach Santa Cruz Island and then a private transport to our first excursion as we travel south across the island on the way to the main town where our hotel is located.
VALUABLES & BAGGAGE HANDLING
Galapagos will quickly relax you into a safe "small town" feeling.
Still, it's good practice on any transfers on the Galapagos as staff help with your luggage, always keep with you at all times:
valuables
passport, medicines, wallet, money belt etc.
personal backpack/bag
w/ tour essentials like sunglasses, sunscreen, hat, rain jacket, bottle of water etc.
in the unlikely case luggage is momentarily misplaced and/or hard to access what you need easily during that day's tour/transport.
Baggage handling is rough & often many times a day we can't supervise at all moments during variety of airport, water & land taxis, speedboat ferry transfers. So as you prepare to be in ready for anything "expedition-mode" keep your delicate items like cameras in your carry-on bag & all "soft bags" with you. We recommend water-proof/resistant day backpacks for important/can't lose items & delicate items. Or delicate items at least packed inside a hard case with padding OK for being "man-handled".

Tour Highlights
🛥️ Boat Ride Along the Western Coastline
Departing from Puerto Villamil’s main town pier, enjoy a 40-minute speedboat ride along Isabela’s dramatic western coastline. Your journey offers scenic views of volcanic terrain and turquoise waters, with a brief stop at Roca Unión—a favored nesting site for masked boobies, often viewable from the boat.

Arrive at the main attraction: Los Túneles, a surreal network of lava bridges, open tunnels, and natural arches formed by ancient volcanic flows from Sierra Negra Volcano.
Navigate the boat through this maze-like lava landscape
Disembark for a short 10–15 minute guided hike across the formations
Spot coastal birds resting or nesting among the arches
🤿 El Finado Snorkeling Site
End your tour with a peaceful snorkeling session in El Finado, a calm, clear-water cove tucked among mangroves.
Swim alongside sea turtles, reef fish, rays, and white-tipped reef sharks resting along the sandy bottom

Half-Day Hiking Adventure | Geological Wonders | Farm-to-Table Lunch
Isabela Island is home to Sierra Negra, one of the most awe-inspiring volcanic formations in the Galápagos—and the most accessible.
Towering above the island’s southern highlands, Sierra Negra’s massive caldera and dynamic volcanic landscape offer a chance to witness the Earth in motion, with panoramic coastal views, lava flows, and even active fumeroles depending on your route.
On this flexible adventure, you can choose between an unforgettable ~3 hour hiking experience or watching the Sulfur Mines hikers from the crater rim with amazing/ever-changing views, based on your preferred activity level.
Everyone reunites afterward for a delicious local lunch at a nearby farm, where volcanic soil and island traditions come together.
🥾 Option 1: Sierra Negra Descent to "Sulfur Mines" in the Caldera
Challenging Hike | For Adventurous Travelers
For a challenging trek that even more reluctant hikers find well worth the effort, descend into the Sierra Negra caldera to visit the “sulfur mines”—a natural thermal area with active fumeroles and colorful mineral deposits. This route gives you a closer look at volcanic activity, tectonic features, and the ever-changing earth beneath your feet.
· Total distance: ~3 miles round trip
· Terrain: Steep and rugged, can be hot and muddy.
Trail down/up the caldera is made from volcanic sand, pea gravel that can be a bit slippery on incline portion. In caldera you might walk on volcanic sand, ashes, and lava boulders as see in pictures.
· Highlights: Steam vents, volcanic chemistry, surreal geology, and few crowds
Enjoy the ever-changing vista of fast-moving clouds above & active fumeroles below from the Sierra Negra crater rim. There may be wildlife sightings at the crater rim as well.
Our vehicles will be with us as well as a picnic table for comfortable sitting options.
With dimensions ranging from 25-37 miles wide and 4.4 to 6.1 miles in length, Sierra Negra is the largest and shallowest caldera in the Galápagos. Though often claimed to be the second largest caldera in the world (it's not), it still ranks among the top 50 largest calderas globally.
Its elliptical shape and geologic history—marked by repeated collapses, uplift, and deformation—make it one of the best places to learn about the volcanic origins of the islands.
After the hike, both groups come together for a fresh, locally sourced lunch at a highland farm near the trailhead.
· Enjoy Galapagos-grown produce, grilled proteins, and seasonal fruit
· Vegetarian options available
· Relax, recharge, and take in the scenic highland surroundings

Sierra Negra Sulfer Mines Tour Nov 2024
Enjoy a free afternoon to explore Isabela.
Ask Marvi if you're in the mood for something you don't see on this list of options:
Walk and/or laze on Puerto Villamil beach steps outside the hotel--our favorite beach in all of Galápagos--long, powdery white sand, and uncrowded except for wildlife sightings including marine iguanas daily saunter across the beach to go feed in the ocean.
Walk up the beach vista tower (watch for baby iguanas on the steps), explore the long beach to see what wildlife you encounter
Walk the main sand street of the village--there is a nice expresso cafe, good bakery, fresh empanadas, fruit bowls/smoothies and more plus a nice central park to explore
There is a fruit bowl/smoothie food truck on the main sand street which makes HUGE bowls from wide variety of fresh fruits--try some you can't get at home!

This rare corner of the archipelago features dramatic lava cliffs, untouched white sand beaches, and glassy turquoise waters, surrounded by thriving marine life and some of the most iconic and hard-to-find Galapagos species.
Expect encounters with:
The Galápagos flightless cormorant—found nowhere else on Earth but this rugged western coast
Galápagos penguins, who form the largest colony in the islands here
Tropical fish, sea turtles, rays, and possibly fur seals or orcas along the journey
Land iguanas and Marine iguanas during a short guided hike along the volcanic terrain passing around an important marine iguana nesting area
Galapagos' unique underwater-feeding Marine Iguanas, if you're lucky, can be seen swimming in the water
Watch for huge 6 feet wide Mobula (Devil) Rays along the coast on the boat journeys

Travel aboard this comfortable, local-family owned yacht as we journey through the central islands of the archipelago toward a destination often described as the “postcard image” of the Galápagos. This full-day adventure combines dramatic geology, wildlife encounters, crystal-clear snorkeling waters, and spectacular scenery both above and below the surface.
Home to the famous Pinnacle Rock, striking volcanic formations, turquoise bays, and one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in the Galápagos.

Wildlife sightings may include:
Lava lizards
Marine birds
Sally Lightfoot crabs

Snacks and beverages are served throughout the day, and dietary accommodations can be arranged with advance notice.

Half-Day Adventure | Scenic Walk | Swimming, Kayaking & Beach Marine Sightings
Spend a relaxing but active morning exploring one of the most breathtaking beaches in the Galapagos—Tortuga Bay, named after the black sea turtles that nest along its shores.
This guided experience combines land and sea, giving you the chance to walk, swim, kayak, view wildlife and soak in the natural beauty of Santa Cruz’s southern coast.
Tour Highlights
🧭 Guided Nature Walk to Tortuga Bay
(approx. 4 miles total trail walk, no ferry available)
Begin with a scenic 45 to 60-minute guided mostly flat (except the stairs entrance) paver trail walk (approx. 1.5 miles) through lava fields, dry forest, and cactus groves as our naturalist guide Marvi shares insights into the unique flora and fauna that thrive in this coastal ecosystem where he was born.
🌊 Playa Brava & Playa Mansa
Arrive at the dramatic white sands of Playa Brava, a long (.6 mile) long beach with powerful surf and sweeping views where you'll find marine iguanas sunning and sea birds running & diving & no human swimming due to strength of currents.
Then continue to the calmer Playa Mansa, a sheltered bay with shade trees perfect for swimming, relaxing, and optional water activities where you sometimes encounter baby hammerhead sharks.
🛶 Kayaking (Optional)
Explore the tranquil Playa Mansa bay by kayak usually available for short rental (cost part of tour). Paddle among mangroves, marine birds, and possibly encounter baby sharks or sea turtles in the shallows.
🐠 Beach Wildlife Spotting
Marine life here is limited compared to deeper snorkel sites, but you may spot juvenile fish, rays, turtles and sometimes baby hammerhead or white reef tip sharks close to shore plus shore birds.
From Playa Mansa, it'll be about a 2-mile walk back to edge of town & we'll decide if walk to hotel/downtown or call a taxi.
**Note: no bathroom or concession services at this pristine visitor site so we'll use the restrooms before we go & stop by a store if you'd like to bring some snacks & beverages. We'll need to bring all our trash out.

Hotel to be confirmed. 2026 founders group enjoyed this hotel--plan to use again if right number of rooms available to fit our group.
Katarma is a premier boutique art hotel in the Galapagos with harmonious architecture and interior design with sculptures inspired by the majestic flora and fauna of the Galapagos. Known for operating to minimize impact on the environment while supporting local residents.
Located easy couple blocks from ferry pier and town amenities like restaurants and beaches.
Includes:
Continental Breakfast
Free WiFi
Outdoor Pool, Sauna
Courtyard
Cash Bar
Room-controlled A/C & fan
Garden, Pool, Inner Courtyard and/or City view
Private bathroom w/ hot water
Non-smoking rooms
Upper floor rooms by stairs only--advise if need ground floor
Available laundry service
NOTE: Each shower is a bit different, if having issues operating, please ask hotel staff to show you how to use!
Eco-friendly Practices:
A/C use: most hotels ask you to turn off the A/C when you are not present. Alternatively if very hot, you can set at 80 degrees or about 28 C as actually takes less energy/time to get back to comfy temp when you return than turning off all day.
Water use--on the islands, fresh water is limited, so everyone tries to limit use e.g. don't let water run while brushing teeth or even while soaping up in the shower
After settling in to our hotel, we'll head to dinner & enjoy a personalized walking Orientation Tour before & after dinner of the village of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, the capital of Galápagos Islands.
We'll walk to this popular restaurant right on the waterfront.
Enjoy a burger, grilled meats, pasta and/or fresh seafood dish (or taste all of the above family-style!) accompanied by great Golden Prague-style beer brewed on site among other beverages.
You'll likely see the nightly gathering of the sea lions on the downtown beach as you walk home. San Cristobal has the largest colonies of sea lions across the archipelago.

Full-Day Marine Adventure | Circumnavigate San Cristobal Island | 5 Epic Stops | 3 Off-board Excursions
Experience the ultimate San Cristóbal coastal journey on this iconic 360° Tour on our group's own chartered boat—an exhilarating full-day adventure that takes you on a 70-mile circumnavigation of the entire island.
Designed for nature lovers, photographers, and ocean explorers alike, this tour gives you front-row access to five spectacular sites—both above and below the waterline—though exact stops & their order may vary slightly depending on sea conditions and Galapagos National Park regulations:
Kicker Rock (León Dormido) – The tour’s grand highlight and the most famous snorkeling spot near San Cristóbal. This towering split rock formation offers the chance to see white-tipped reef sharks, Galapagos sharks, sea turtles, rays, and often even hammerhead sharks.
Cerro Brujo (Witch Hill) – We will pass by a gorgeous volcanic formation and beach with turquoise waters, often ideal for spotting sea lions and marine birds in gentle surf for great picture opportunities.
Bahía Sardina (Sardine Bay) – A stunning beach used for a land break, wildlife viewing, or sometimes a quick snorkel depending on conditions.
Punta Pitt – The only place in the Galapagos where you can see all three species of boobies (blue-footed, red-footed, and Nazca) nesting in the same area. No landing here but great spot for our lunch on board with world-class bird watching including the rare red-footed booby possible. This section of the route may also include a traditional Galapagos fishing demonstration, where local experts show you sustainable line techniques passed down through generations.
Bahia Rosa Blanca – A remote white sand beach and small bay on the island’s eastern coast, known for its crystal-clear waters, mangroves, and great chances to see rays, turtles, and juvenile sharks while snorkeling in calm shallows.
Our day begins with a safety briefing before boarding a fully certified vessel equipped with all modern safety gear. As we cruise the wild and rugged coastline, you'll witness the raw beauty of San Cristóbal’s remote cliffs, beaches, and marine life hotspots—many of which are accessible only by boat.
**We'll be ready for "jump in the water" opportunities that might arise at our designated stops--in March 2026 we swam with ~100 dolphins including many babies with their mothers. Never guaranteed, always enjoyed!
Onboard Experience includes:
Fresh hot lunch, featuring usually local fish or chicken, rice, vegetables, dessert, and seasonal fruit
Snacks and hot/cold drinks served throughout the tour
Alcoholic beverages (beer, cocktails) available for purchase
After your final snorkel, relax on the ride back to port with the ocean breeze and unforgettable views before drop-off back at our hotel.
This is the ultimate way to see San Cristóbal—by sea, with a front-row seat to nature’s wildest show.
Enjoy the best wood-fired pizza we've found on the islands at the Golden Bay Hotel.
They say it's the authentic pizza oven they flew in from Italy you can watch in action from your table!

Talk with Marvi what you're interested in doing with the rest of your afternoon. Possibilities include:
Relaxing at hotel pool/bar
Walking the shops for final souvenirs at locally-owned shops

REMINDER FLIGHT CHECK-IN TIME
You'll want to check-in to your international flight home usually 24 hours before departure!
We'll take care of getting your boarding pass for your Galapagos domestic flight to Quito.
We'll search out the hottest new spot to enjoy in San Cristobal!
We'll pick you up at your hotel & take you for the less than 15 min. journey to the airport
At the airport we will assist you with special processes to depart the Galápagos National Park including:
Bio-security inspection of your luggage (no natural souvenirs allowed!) before you check in with airline.
Collection of 2nd 1/2 of your Galapagos TCT (Transit Control Card) you've been saving in your passport from entry.
Assisted airline check-in: we'll help you get your boarding passes, checked luggage tags (please don't do this online)
AFTER GPS SECURITY TIP: Suggest have a nice coffee/beverage & hot meal at the airport after complete check-in due to ~4 hours from your next meal with flight stopover at Guayaquil to leave/pick up passengers usually.
There is no meal & limited beverage service on Galapagos flights so also good idea to bring water & snacks.
If you have 3 hours or less after getting your baggage in Quito before your international flight, you'll need to dive right into check-in for your flight home and you can grab a hot meal after international flight security.
DEPARTURE FROM SCY SAN CRISTOBAL AIRPORT
You will climb the plane stairs from the tarmac of this 1-runway airport.
**PHOTO OP: great quick group photo spot with the plane on tarmac before embarking on the airplane (stay in painted pedestrian area).
Your e-ticket will be attached here.
NOTE: your flight usually has a brief stop in GYE Guayaquil on the coast before continuing on to Quito UIO--usually they don't let you off so you don't miss the continuation of your flight.
You can choose to get live status of your flight's on-time status here.
PHOTO OPP ALERT:
Watch out your airplane windows as approach Quito Airport--Quito is ringed by volcano mountains, may get a great shot!
WELCOME BACK TO QUITO AIRPORT
~4:15 pm Your Galapagos Flight Arrives
Galapagos native Tony Sotomayor will meet your flight from Galapagos to UIO Quito Airport at the domestic terminal & assist you to meet your Quito to USA flights in the international terminal.
He can show you where there are services in easy walking distance if you have an extended wait time at the UIO Quito airport including:
luggage storage
layover resting lounge
hotel/traveler bar & nice sit-down restaurant
food court
retail stores such as pharmacy
If you need assistance with a hotel option on your way out, please let us know.
We recommend staying in the airport for security reasons for any meal you might want before your international flight departs--lots of choices!
Unless you are extending your stay in Quito area, allow us to help plan this stay to keep you safe as the mainland is under security alert.
International Flight Check-in
After you collect your luggage from your Galapagos arriving flight, you will make your way from the domestic to the international terminal.
Plan on starting your check in process ~3 hours before your USA flight departure to check any bags with your airline, go through passport control and regular airport security as there can be delays due to internet/electricity outages, airline kiosk breakdowns/shortages.
Quito Airport Services Both Before/After Security
Good opportunity to do your last souvenir shopping and get a nice hot meal plus snacks/beverages to take with you both before and after security.

ABOUT GALÁPAGOS
From Galapagos Conservancy:
"The Galapagos Islands are home to some of the highest levels of endemism (species found nowhere else on earth) anywhere on the planet. About 80% of the land birds you will see, 97% of the reptiles and land mammals, and more than 30% of the plants are endemic. More than 20% of the marine species in Galapagos are found nowhere else on earth. Favorites include the giant Galapagos tortoise, marine iguana, flightless cormorant, and the Galapagos penguin — the only penguin species to be found in the Northern Hemisphere."
**Note: this itinerary has chance to see all of these favorites if go both weeks.
